He Got Game (1998 Film)

He Got Game is a 1998 Sports Film starting Denzel Washington and former NBA player Ray Allen. It was directed, produced and written by Spike Lee. The plot follows Jesus Shuttlesworth (played by Allen), who is the top-ranked basketball player in the nation. His father, Jake Shuttlesworth (played by Denzel), is currently serving six years at the Attica Correctional Facility for murdering his wife. Warder Wyatt has a meeting with Jake to have a discussion about Jesus. Jesus is being pursued by the top college basketball programs in the nation, and the state governor of New York is an influential alumnus. Jake is offered by the governor to persuade Jesus to play for Big State. In return, he will be given an early prison release. Jake is released on parole for a week to accomplish this deal.

The Air Jordan 13 He Got Game was wore by Jake, giving the colorway of this sneaker the nickname.

History Of The Air Jordan Brand

In 1984, Nike was a struggling shoe company looking for ways to appeal to a new segment of the shoe market, and to reinvent themselves. Nike has turned to rookie Michael Jordan to order to make an endorsement deal, but MJ showed no interest at all. MJ had plans to sign a deal with either Adidas or Converse; he loved the brands, and in North Carolina, these were the shoes that wore to play basketball in. Unfortunately, both of the brands rejected him.

Nike was offering to create a brand new line of shoes called Air Jordan, and MJ’s old agent, David Falk, saw this as a wonderful opportunity. MJ flew to the Nike headquarters in Portland, Oregon, after being convinced by his parents , and his agent. During his visit, Nike has shown him a special video presentation of his college career highlights, plus his high-flying Olympics moves with Pointer Sister’s “Jump” playing in the background. Peter Moore, Nike’s Old Head Designer, also shown MJ sketches of the Air Jordan 1, and apparel to go with it. It was featured in Black and Red, and MJ was very interested with these designs. He has stated: “I can’t wear these shoes, those are devil colors”.

MJ has decided to finally make a deal with Nike, and has signed a 5-year deal that was worth $2.5 million. MJ has fueled the success of Nike, and the Air Jordan Brand is still popular today.

The Air Jordan 13 History

The Air Jordan 13 was originally released way back in 1997. Tinker Hatfield has came up with yet another idea for a good design on the next Air Jordan. If you were a big Michael Jordan fan during the 90’s and watched how he played on the court, you would have notice the resemblance between him and a panther. He would watch his players and make a sudden move, and MJ would have the ball before you even knew what happened!!!

Tinker has met up with MJ and told him that he looked like a panther, or black cat. He also stated: “he would read his player, and strike like a panther”. Did you know that back in the day that all of MJ’s friends called him “black cat” which was his nickname??? The unique sole featured on the 13 is a huge resemblance to a panther’s paw. The 13 also features the classic circle hologram located by the heel of the sneaker, which is said to resemble the eye of a panther. You can notice the 23 and Jumpman logo on the hologram if you look very closely. Unfortunately, the hologram would fogged up overtime.

Back in 1997-1998, the Air Jordan 13 was originally retailed at $150.00, and the low versions were $130.00.

Features Of The Shoe

This sneaker features a white leather upper. Black leather and suede can be found on the toe areas, heels, and midsoles of the shoes. Additionally, touches of true red are located on the Air Jordan Logos, Holograms, and outsoles. Finally, the sneakers will return in the classic Air Jordan gray box from the 90s.
