History Of The Air Jordan Brand

In 1984, Nike was a struggling shoe company looking for ways to appeal to a new segment of the shoe market, and to reinvent themselves. Nike has turned to rookie Michael Jordan to order to make an endorsement deal, but MJ showed no interest at all. MJ had plans to sign a deal with either Adidas or Converse; he loved the brands, and in North Carolina, these were the shoes that wore to play basketball in. Unfortunately, both of the brands rejected him.

Nike was offering to create a brand new line of shoes called Air Jordan, and MJ’s old agent, David Falk, saw this as a wonderful opportunity. MJ flew to the Nike headquarters in Portland, Oregon, after being convinced by his parents , and his agent. During his visit, Nike has shown him a special video presentation of his college career highlights, plus his high-flying Olympics moves with Pointer Sister’s “Jump” playing in the background. Peter Moore, Nike’s Old Head Designer, also shown MJ sketches of the Air Jordan 1, and apparel to go with it. It was featured in Black and Red, and MJ was very interested with these designs. He has stated: “I can’t wear these shoes, those are devil colors”.

MJ has decided to finally make a deal with Nike, and has signed a 5-year deal that was worth $2.5 million. MJ has fueled the success of Nike, and the Air Jordan Brand is still popular today.

The Air Jordan 12 History

The Air Jordan 12 was introduced back in 1996, designed by Tinker Hatfield. This sneaker was inspired by the Japanese Rising Sun, featuring flowing lines reminiscent of the sending out its morning rays. Did you know that the Air Jordan 12 got started with a woman’s fashion shoe known as “Nisshoki”, a shoe from the 19th century??? This was because Michael Jordan is big on fashion.

Also, if you look closely at the sneaker’s tongue, you will notice “TWO3” written down the tongue. MJ came up with a new and different idea for his number 23, so it has got a different look on the sneaker. Michael Jordan, despite suffering from the flu, has worn these in a game against the Utah Jazz, scoring 38 points.

This was also the first Jordan to utilize Zoom Air Technology for lightweight cushioning and lightning quick responsiveness. It also includes a modified herringbone pattern for improved traction.  The original retail price for the Air Jordan 12 was $135.00.

Features Of The Shoe

The leather upper of the shoe is dressed in white. You can also notice the FIBA embossed pattern on the forefoot panel. Additionally, hits of red can be found on the Jordan branding, mudguard, inner liner, outsole, and heel tab of the shoe. Metallic gold is also applied to the branded side panels and eyelets located on the upper. Finally, Chinese letters have been placed on the heel tab.

  1. Hi Ahmad. Even in Australia  we know all about Michael Jordan. What an amazing champion basketball player he was. I know that we will be sending a team to represent Australia in the FIBA competition.

I was checking out your site because my 18 year old grandson has become a basketball fanatic. I think he takes after his Pop, as I played the game at state level for many years. In any case, he has been working hard to help support his parents, who have gone through a rough patch, and still found time to work hard on his favorite sport. We have decide to reward him with a pair of The air Jordan 12 Fiba sneakers. I know he will be absolutely blown away by these. Thank you for your wonderful blog. Jim

I love  the colors off this sneaker and the touch of gold there just make s it super cool. I don’t really mind wht he cost may be I’m getting this shoe for my son. 3. Thank you for this article. I have been looking forward to the Air Jordan 12 Fiba. I never heard of that nickname, His Airness. That is pretty cool. His jumps from the free throw line always amazed me. I think the colors look great and the Zoom Air Technology will feel great when I am playing basketball. Thank you!

  4. Excellent review of the Air Jordan 12fiba. Wow! Good to know the air Jordan series is releasing another pair for the FIBA tournament forthcoming. To be honest, this is an awesome sneakers and I really love the sleekness and the appearance. It looks very elegant and it would surely feel nice to have this on. The pricing is a little bit steep though but considering the popularity of the air Jordan series, quality is assured. So, I think I’m going to cop a pair of this. Great review

  5. Well, I’ll be. My son would die for those sneakers. I wouldn’t mind having a pair, myself. Well out of our price range, but so would anything be with the patronage of Michael Jordan. Anyway, they sound perfect for basketball shoes or running around on the blacktop. They’d definitely get grass-stained here. For anyone who has dirty white shoes, you might want to try rubbing dirty spots thoroughly with white toothpaste on a toothbrush. Works wonders. If those shoes should ever become available in black and gold …

  6. Awesome article.  I love the look of the Air Jordan Fiba 12; but what I really like d about your article is you didn’t just go right into the selling, you gave us history of MJ’s success and how he became associated with NIKE and the air jordan line.  One question I have is do they come in size 8?  Or these sneakers only for bigger feet?  If so do you have a suggestion of a similar air jordan sneaker in a size 8?

I am a huge fan of Michael Jordan and love the look of the air jordans; so if you know of any that are in a size 8 would appreciate any assistance. Thank you again for this informative article and not just going on about the sale but for also telling a story.

  11. Hi Ahmad

Michael Jordon is the most respected basketball player. When I was younger, everyone was amazed by his skills.

Though I longer play competitive basketball, the sneaker you recommended sounds really interesting, especially the picture that shows the Chinese character or is it Japanese?

I love the you tube review as well. It seems to provide a balance review.

    Thank you.

    Warmest Regards

  12. My admiration of Michael Jordan seems like forever. Perhaps, because he was the best basketball player when I was just a kid growing up, in the 90’s. And this made me love anything that’s related to him including Air Jordan sneakers. What’s $135 if it will make you feel high? For me, it’s worth the investment. I don’t care about the price. Good buy for me.

  13. Yeah, it’s hard to deny! These ones look absolutely amazing. I’m really enjoying that white coupled with red inside and gold metallic features. Just Awesome. <3

That said, I totally agree that these will for sure get dirty fast. Especially if one plans on playing on all kinds of flooring (or should I say without flooring). But I’m big on that Zoom Air Technology and the modified herringbone pattern.

Do you happen to have any effective tricks up your sleeve as to how to properly clean these? Would love to know.

Cheers, and have a Great One!

    Matiss

  14. As unconventional as that sounds, I guess my favorite part about these shoes is their sole. I mean, first, it just looks absolutely beautiful. Second, their incredibly functional too (as far as I can tell, based on that herringbone pattern). Other than that, I believe the pros outweigh the cons hard as I feel at the end of the day it’s more about the performance than looks. I mean, I like looks but it’s always performance>looks for me. And these seem like an amazing choice when it comes to that performance.

Thank you, Ahmad, for all the insights, I appreciate it!

    Have an Amazing Day! Rasa
