The Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboard 3.0 has released today, and is a perfect theme for the Halloween day. If you remember back in 1985, Michael Jordan has participated in a exhibition tour game. During that game, he has slam dunked the hoop, causing the backboard to shatter.

Are you ready to cop these?? You can make a purchase now.

What Is The Shattered Backboard

A backboard shattering is a stunt or accident in basketball, where the player slam dunks the basketball through the hoop so hard that it breaks the backboard safety glass. This dangerous stunt has caused games to be delayed or cancels, injuries due to shattered glass flying towards the players and fans, and costs for replacement and cleanup that is extremely expensive. In the NBA, this is considered to be non-sportsmanlike conduct, and the player can be penalized, and fined as well.

Back in 1985, Michael Jordan played at a Nike Exhibition game in Trieste, Italy. During that game, MJ has shattered the backboard by dunking the basketball very forcefully. It was very obvious that MJ was very good at dunking. MJ has scored 30 points at that game, and it became one of the craziest, unforgettable moments in MJ’s basketball career.

Who Is Michael Jordan?

Michael Jordan is a retired professional basketball player who has played for 15 seasons in NBA for the Chicago Bulls, and the Washington Wizards. During his time at the University of North Carolina in 1982, he played basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels, and was drafted for the Chicago Bulls in 1984.

He was able to entertain the crowd with his prolific scoring, defensive plays, and his ability to perform slam dunks from the free throw line at the slam dunk contests, which has earned him the nicknames: Air Jordan and His Airness. He has won his first NBA Championship with the Bulls in 1991, and also winning again in 1992 and 1993 (three-peat).

During the 1993-1994 NBA season, MJ has retired from basketball in order to pursue a minor career in baseball. In March 1995, MJ has announced his return to the NBA, and has led the Bulls to three additional championships during 1996-1998. In 1999, MJ retired from the NBA for the second time, but return again to play for the Washington Wizards during 2001-2003.

History Of The Air Jordan Brand

In 1984, Nike was a struggling shoe company looking for ways to appeal to a new segment of the shoe market, and to reinvent themselves. Nike has turned to rookie Michael Jordan to order to make an endorsement deal, but MJ showed no interest at all. MJ had plans to sign a deal with either Adidas or Converse; he loved the brands, and in North Carolina, these were the shoes that wore to play basketball in. Unfortunately, both of the brands rejected him.

Nike was offering to create a brand new line of shoes called Air Jordan, and MJ’s old agent, David Falk, saw this as a wonderful opportunity. MJ flew to the Nike headquarters in Portland, Oregon, after being convinced by his parents , and his agent. During his visit, Nike has shown him a special video presentation of his college career highlights, plus his high-flying Olympics moves with Pointer Sister’s “Jump” playing in the background.

Peter Moore, Nike’s Old Head Designer, also shown MJ sketches of the Air Jordan 1, and apparel to go with it. It was featured in Black and Red, and MJ was very interested with these designs. He has stated: “I can’t wear these shoes, those are devil colors”. MJ has decided to finally make a deal with Nike, and has signed a 5-year deal that was worth $2.5 million. MJ has fueled the success of Nike, and the Air Jordan Brand is still popular today.

The Air Jordan 1 History

The Air Jordan 1 was first introduced way back in 1984-1985, created by Peter Moore. Michael Jordan has become the Rookie Of The Year, and played in the All-Star game. It was the first basketball shoe wore in the NBA that featured multiple colors. MJ first disliked the sneaker, but started to grew on him overtime.

During that time, the famous sneaker was banned by Commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, since the sneakers didn’t follow the standard uniform policy and the sneaker had to be 50% white. MJ wasn’t allowed to wear the shoes on the court, but MJ refused to play without them anyways. He was fined $2,000 for every time he worn the sneakers on the court. However, Nike has covered the fines, and also gave the Air Jordan 1 the “The Shoe Banned By The NBA” label.

There were over 23 different color variations released, and the Air Jordan 1 also came with two sets of shoe laces that matched the colorway on the sneakers. The shoe was originally retailed at $65.00.

Features Of The Shoe

This shoe comes with a glossy patent leather material covered in black and starfish orange. It also features a sail rubber sole as well. Finally, to top off things, the Nike Air Branding can be located on the tongue, as well as the Wings logo by the collar.

  1. There has been great expectation concerning Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboard 3.0 among my cousins. I really like the colors and it matches perfectly an outfit that I have recently bought.

I remember seeing videos of Michael Jordan’s participation in that game in 1985. Simply awesome. And his sneakers immediately caught my attention.

  2. Oh, this is it! This is what I’m waiting for, for this coming Halloween celebrations! The color combination of black and orange is a perfect fit for Halloween considering black is a favorite color in this celebration and of course, there are orange-colored pumpkins that match that orange color in Air Jordan 1 High Shattered shoes.

By the way, the skin looks glossy, so I’m quite curious, what material is it made of? What makes it glossy and not rough?

    • Hello Gomer, thanks for the comment. The material of this shoe consists of leather construction, which provides durability, comfort, and breathability. The gloss is just a design for the sneaker which makes it stand out very well.

  3. I know very little about Michael Jordan’s history besides knowing he’s the best basketball player of all time. But I really love these sneakers. Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboard 3.0 seemed to be just designed for me. I love the colors. They look so much like Halloween. Cool indeed!

  4. Those are some vary nice looking shoes! Perfect for Halloween too I didn’t even think about that! I was unaware of the incident back in ’85 that gave the name to these shoes, I know that Shaq broke many a backboard but always though of Jordan as more finesse when dunking. That is pretty cool to know, thank you for sharing! I am going to pick up a pair now!

  5. Hello Ahmad,

Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboard 3.0 sneakers really brings out the Halloween vibe with its black and starfish orange colors. I loved reading the stories behind Air Jordan brand and Air Jordan 1 sneakers. MJ’s dedication to “The Shoe Banned By The NB” is very admirable. Even though I didn’t buy previous shattered backboard 1s I might spend $160 and buy this sneaker on 26th.

Michael Jordan is undeniably the best basket ball player of all time and seeing the history behind this particular footwear is really great. Thank you so much for sharing this out with us. This should be a worthy addition to my air Jordan collections.

  8. I think the Air Jordan 1 high shattered is a great looking Sneaker. Apart from the outward good looks this is actually going to be pretty expensive because of the branding and Nike and Jordan have always been the best when it comes to production of good sneakers in terms of quality and durability. Is the Air and Jordan part meaning that the site is a combination of Nike and Jordan? Looks real good and reminds me of the Lunar Force 1 duckboot.

    • Hello Donny, thanks for the comment. Well, Air Jordan is apart of Nike so you can say that.

  9. Hi Ahmad,

I really enjoyed reading your article on the Air Jordan’s. I have been looking for an updated version of the Air Jordan’s for my son’s birthday and these would be perfect. Do you know if they do them in children’s sizes (he is a size 3)? Thanks in advance, Andrew

    • Hello Andrew, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, these are only available in Men’s sizing. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  10. Sweet, just in time for Halloween haha. Man I haven’t owned a pair of Air Jordan’s in quite awhile. My last Air Jordan sneakers were gray and maroon in color. I have always loved black and orange together though, those shoes are really popping off the screen. Maybe you mentioned it in your post, sorry if I missed it, but do you own a pair of Jordan’s? I’m curious which kicks you have sitting at home. Really loved the history lesson on Michael Jordan, that was a nice surprise. Take care friend.

    • Hello Riverdogg, thanks for the comment. I’m glad that you have asked. I happen to be the owner of over 100 pairs of sneakers.

The only problem is trying to keep them stored lls.

  11. Hemi-orange? Yes please!
I love the colors right off the bat. These are some awesome looking shoes!

Even better that there’s a whole story behind this brand with long history.
It’s funny that MJ first disliked these sneakers.

However, I’m also curious about Air Jordans practical uses.
What do you think, are patent leather shoes like these any good in gym?
Most basketball shoes usually tend to be notoriously comfortable.

    • Hello Henry, thanks for the comment. Normally, leather material on a sneaker provides breathability, durability, and comfort. So playing a game of basketball in these wouldn’t be a problem for you.

  12. Wow, I had no idea that Michael Jordan had achieved so much.

Very interesting and informative post about him. Very interesting to read about the way he didn’t like the Nike shoes at first then came to rebel against the rules and wear them regardless of the trouble he got into. I imagine that made them much more popular shoes/sneakers, apart from them becoming popular because a sporting hero really loved them.

Love the colours of the newest ones, so vibrant and interesting.

Thank you for a great post, will share on social media.

  13. its really nice to read another article about Air Jordan. The High shattered backboard is a very beautiful and nice sneaker, I got one last year and I loved wearing it until my brother came and took it away. Shattering backboard has been my best basket ball moments and I always love to watch some of it previews online, Jordan is really a legend and I consider this sneaker to be a legendary sneaker, lol. Thanks.

  14. Shattering backboard is a very common skill now known widely in the basketball game but I don’t really know the latest rules behind it now. It’s nice to read about Michael Jordan, he’s a real master and pro, and I think modelling this sneaker to be like his amazing slam is interesting. Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboard 3.0 is a must have for me. It’s very thoughtful of you to post this article, it’s useful.
